NICHD Grant for the Validation of CHADIS 0-3

Executive Summary

This Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant awarded to Total Child Health by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) allows us to finalize development of the infant/toddler component of CHADIS, called CHADIS 0-3.

In collaboration with national experts from the organization, we have developed a series of questionnaires designed to assess the criteria outlined in the Diagnostic Classification of Mental Health and Developmental Disorders of Infancy and Early Childhood: Revised Edition (DC: 0-3R; Zero to Three, 2005). This grant allows us to finalize development of this important CHADIS component in preparation for marketing.

The grant will proceed in two phases. In Phase I, CHADIS 0-3 will be reviewed by national experts from the Zero to Three organization and the American Academy of Pediatrics, and by both parents and clinicians. Test-retest reliability will also be assessed. In Phase II, CHADIS 0-3 will be tested by a much larger group of 450 families from both general pediatrics and NICU follow-up clinics. Participants will complete both CHADIS 0-3 and comparison measures, allowing the validity of CHADIS to be assessed. Participants will also give feedback on their experience using CHADIS 0-3, allowing for further improvements to the system.
